(computer graphics) Produced by dithering; consisting of bits in different colors placed side by side to simulate an intermediate color that is not in the palette, or the somewhat banded or mottled look that this can produce.Examples: "Keeping in mind the minimum target configuration of 256 colours the pictures mode was changed from thousands to 256 colours.
