2. (entomology) A groove in the rostrum of weevils, or on the outer side of the mandible.Examples: "scrobe (skrōb), n. [< L. scrobis, a ditch, dike, trench. Hence ult. scrobicula, etc., and prob. ult. screw¹.] In entom.: (a) A groove in the side of the rostrum in which the scape or basal joint of the antenna is received, in the weevils or curculios. These scrobes may be directed straight forward, or upward or downward, and thus furnish characters much used in classifying such beetles. (b) A groove on the outer side of the mandible, more fully called mandibular scrobe."
